Follow Your Bliss? Really?

13 May Posted by in Christian Comedian | Comments

Living in the world of motivational speakers, I do buy into the idea that we should live life to the fullest – reach our utmost potential – embrace our power – discover our passion and follow it – grab everything that life has to offer – and never stop believing or reaching higher.  I really do believe undoubtedly that the best is yet to come – after this life –  through Jesus – revealed in fullness when He returns and says, “It is finished.”

But I don’t think I should always follow my bliss. Just because I feel passionate about something, doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do.  Sometimes I forget that this story isn’t about my journey, but a bigger journey, where my bliss isn’t really the objective. And just because I may call it my truth, doesn’t always mean it’s The Truth. And sometimes when I think I really need to do something, it’s because someone is whispering in my ear who does not have my best interest in mind – someone who once whispered about a certain forbidden apple - a deceiver who tempted them away from what was right, to what felt best to them.

And so today I will ignore the screams of the world that tell me it’s all about me and my bliss, and remember what it’s truly about. And the grace that allows me a part in it.

“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well”
Matt 6:33
